Isshinryu Karate, the One Heart Way founded by Tatsuo Shimabuku, is not a way to violence but a way to avoid violence if possible. Students will learn self confidence, discipline, and self defense. Our classes stress both physical fitness and character development. Through character development along with repetition of techniques, we can be confident that if put into an intense, life-threatening situation, we will react with a focused, immovable mind and heart. 

Our Karate Creed

I come to you with only Karate, empty hands, I have no weapons. But should I be forced to defend myself, my honor or my principles. Should it be a matter of life or death, right or wrong; then here are my weapons, my empty hands. 

The Dojo Oath

We will train our hearts and bodies for a firm, unshaken spirit.

We will pursue the true meaning of the martial way so that in time our senses may be alert.

With true vigor, we will seek to cultivate a spirit of self denial.

We will observe the rules of courtesy, respect our superiors and refrain from violence. 

We will pay homage to our creator and never forget the true virtue of humility.

We will look upwards to wisdom and strength, not seeking other desires.

All our lives, through the discipline of karate, we will seek to fulfill the true meaning of the way.

Codes of Isshinryu Karate

1. A person's heart is the same as Heaven and Earth.

2. The blood circulating is similar to the Moon and the Sun.

3. The manner of drinking or spitting is either hard or soft.

4. A person's unbalance is the same as a weight.

5. The body should be able to change direction at any time. 

6. The time to strike is when the opportunity presents itself.

7. The eye must see all sides.

8. The ear must listen in all directions.
